Fishing in Sarasota: Whether you fish from land or sea, there is something to catch. Because of the three barrier islands located in Sarasota or Manatee County, many fishermen find hotspots just a short distance from shore. The following blog post describes the types of fish generally caught here. https://www.escape-to-sarasota.com/fishing-sarasota-florida.html
Watersports: Did you know that Manatee County is home to a National Park? Just off the Manatee River, you will find De Soto National Memorial Park. This park has a kayak launch site, is pet friendly, full facility park and a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The trails are soft sand and shaded. This is one of my favorite places! Since Sarasota and Bradenton waterways are public friendly, you will find so many places to enjoy being out on the water. You can find launch sites in Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key, Siesta Key as well as Bird Key and several along the Manatee River.
Beaches: Forget about Sugar Sandy Beaches, ours are Powder! In just 20-30 minutes, you can be sitting on one of the best beaches in the United States-Siesta Key. There is nothing better than after a day at the beach to grab a cool drink and perhaps some local seafood. But we just don’t have 1 great island, we have 3! Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key should not be forgotten. Each have their own charm and yes, wonderful beaches. If you haven’t had dinner at
the Waterfront on the north end of Anna Maria Island, you must try it. Sit outside and on a clear day, you can see the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa.
Biking: Sarasota and Manatee County not only have bike clubs but their parks department purposely link the parks via pedestrian and bike trails.
Golfing: Sarasota, Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch have private as well as public courses. In addition, you can find many golf course communities in all of these cities. For more information on golf courses with reviews in the Sarasota area, click here
Dinner Times: This may sound like an odd question, but there are times I hear people complain about towns that shutdown at 9PM. You don’t have to worry about that here in our area. Downtown Sarasota have great restaurants that cater to the theater crowd and late diners. After living in Miami for the past decade, most people eat dinner after 7 PM and even later on the weekends. No problem here, even in Lakewood Ranch.
Foodies: If you love chef owned restaurants, you won’t be disappointed with Sarasota. Sarasota is a foodie’s paradise and home to James Beard nominee chef Steve Phelps of Indigenous Restaurant. Sarasota offers a diverse palate from Hungarian cuisine to Greek.
Waterfront Dining: There is such a variety of places to enjoy great food with a perfect water view. Whether you’re on Sarasota Bay, Siesta Key, Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key or tucked back in the Village of Cortez you will find all price points and a variety of restaurants. So many choices!
*Saint Petersburg is only a 30-minute drive from North Bradenton. Spend an afternoon at the Salvador Dali Museum and then have lunch outside by the water and watch the sailboats.
Metropolitan Feel with Small Town Kindness: Downtown Sarasota is home to Ritz Carlton, The Westin and high-rise condo buildings that offer wonderful rooftop dining and sunset parties. Catching a sunset 17 stories high over the Sarasota Bay with a nice glass of wine can be the beginning of a perfect weekend!
Arts, Museums and Cultural Events: The Ringling Museum of Art, The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, Sarasota Opera, The Players Centre for Performing Arts & More! See the complete list here .
Grandchildren: Walt Disney and Universal Studios are only 1.5 hours’ drive away. If you want to have fun and don’t mind a short drive, Orlando is the place to be!
Live Music: Sarasota was home to Greg Allman and his band members. Sarasota has several venues for live music and is also home to the nationally recognized Bradenton Jazz Festival.
Shopping: Sarasota offers high end shopping and small specialty boutiques. If you cannot find it in Sarasota, Tampa is a short drive to shops such as Ikea and more.
Traveling: The Sarasota area offers proximity to not only Tampa International Airport (1 hr), but Tampa/Clearwater (45 Mins) and Sarasota International Airport. Sarasota Airport SRQ offers direct flights to New York, Chicago and Dallas just to name a few. With access to 3 airports travel internationally or within the US is convenient.
Doctors: Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota and Bradenton all have hospitals. In addition, Tampa is a short drive should you need additional care or treatment.
